Liverpool's match against Bournemouth at Anfield will be the opening match of the first week. Defending champions Liverpool are ready to play and attempt to defend their title.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot spoke about his team's readiness ahead of the opening match of the 2026/2026 Premier League season. He told club media that defending the title in the new season will be very difficult.
"The reason it's so difficult [to defend the title] is primarily because there are so many rivals who can also win the league here. Winning it once is already very special, let alone winning it twice in three, four, or five years, or like we did, twice in five years, and [Manchester] City have even been better than us in recent years. So, it's incredible if you can do that in this league. And maybe this year will be more difficult than previous years, because every team is bringing in new players, but our main rivals are doing that too," he said.
Meanwhile, Liverpool's fierce rival, Manchester City, will play their first Premier League match of the season away to Wolverhampton Wanderers. This opening match will be an interesting one considering Manchester City's ambition to take the title from Liverpool.
A heated match will be presented in the first week of the Premier League season when the two giants, Manchester United and Arsenal, face each other. Manchester United will host Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday, August 17, 2025.
